We have had a nice week of downwind conditions on our south shore. This video was shot from a gopro mounted on the nose of my ski.

It's great practice for me. I find it tough to match their speed and stay close. Gopro video is tricky with the wide angle lens. Subjects look great close up, but if they move away slightly, they shrink. Standups zoom all over the swells. Keeping them in frame is a chore.

It's great training. On a light day I can muscle the boat over most stuff. But when it gets bigger and faster, I have to anticipate what they are doing to get in the same trough. It's great practice for me to look behind them and see what they may zoom on. Also, which direction they will surf. Standups get on a plane and release. They accelerate quickly.

When it gets really big I can't get more than a few seconds of vid at a time. The boards and ski's are just too different.

I've been admiring these two paddlers for years. They are fast. I could never keep up when I was on standup. Now in ski, I'm glad I can share what it looks like.

I was amazed at the times the leading SUP guys did in the recent 20 Beaches. I only saw them at the start & then landing, didn't see any on the water which wasn't surprising considering how wide the course can be. Thanks to this great vid now I can see how they do it. Makes me want to go & get a downwind board....

Skis concentrate on having optimal displacement hulls, but I wonder if there are lessons to be learnt in planing hulls?

Planing hulls are very fast when they are planing, and suck when they are not...

Just in case you missed it elsewhere, not every body's on FB. Conditions were great if a little technical, but the top guys were milking it.

What an amazing footage and interviews... as usual Rambo, you surpass yourself! Watching the elite paddlers set up their skis, catching runs, post race interviews... what a treasure chest! I would like to propose that you rename your blog to Rambo's treasure chest... put your hand up for those who agree...

I particularly admired Jasper's humility in victory, my hat goes of to you mate, what a champion. I remember a few years ago watching Dawid's interview after yet another win and again, amazing sportsmanship! You boys are true ambassadors of this sport, well done
