Also just tried the VIRB camera!

On Tuesday I did a Millers Run in the back of Oscar Chalupsky's V10 Double and strapped 5 cameras on the boat! Two of them were old GoPros that I knew would fog up (and they did) but I used them simply to capture audio of Oscar (and me) talking.

I had two on the mast (GoPro 3 and the VIRB) and a GoPro on the deck facing back.

It's going to take a while to edit the footage, but I cut a short clip of probably the best sequence of the run from the VIRB footage. Pretty cool to have the speed displayed!

Here's a photo of the mast setup:

The mast is held in place with velcro reinforced with duct tape. Because the VIRB was on a mount created from multiple GoPro pieces, I wrapped some duct tape around it to reduce vibration.

Great footage Rob,

Could you please measure the height above deck to undersize of the camera housing...Trying to find the optimum mast height...yours looks better I think.

Love the camera - not so much the editing software!

Mine's adjustable(!) 71-84cm! I had it on about 82cm I suspect.

(The mast itself is comprises a paddle shaft with a length lock on it so it can be removed from the base. My idea is to build up a collection of bases that can be used on various deck shapes.) The GoPro was quite a bit higher than the VIRB and looks still better in my opinion. (I'll cut the same sequence out and post it.)

I'm working on the video of a Millers Run that I did in a double with Oscar Chalupsky, but in the meantime I knocked together this clip from a New Year's Eve run. Conditions were chilled - but there were runs. They were clean and travelling at an ideal speed... Great fun.

My first GoPro video. 8am paddle session of Surfski School at Fish Hoek on an unusually calm day with Dawid Mocke and Alex Topliss. Technique practice, sprints and speed re-mounting! What a beautiful place to paddle!

Paddling with dolphins at Fish Hoek, followed by practising catching small runs. Individual lesson with the Surfski School. Beautiful animals, poor video and sorry about the swonk horizon!

This is probably my longest run to date, the wind was gusting +-35knots. There were plenty 15-20 second runs too :)

Shot with Mobius cam with JooVoo housing
I like the Mobius because it's lighter than GoPro.
Even though it wasn't submerged, the housing leaked a couple of drops, but the cam still works. The housing lens is plastic, so RainX doesn't shed drops as well as on the GoPro housing.

How could you cut off the last few seconds of the beach landing?!? I want to see what happened ;)

Looks like great fun conditions. It seems like the V7 is a rather wet ride with the low sides and huge sidecuts though...

Kocho, there are several sandbars at that time of tide and I jumped out as I was passing over one, just to make sure I didn't hit the rudder.. have only once, but it's good insurance.

The V7 isn't any more a wet ride than all other Epic skis. I've tried them all and haven't found it to be any problem. Cockpit was drained the whole time without issue.
