Double surfski racing is becoming more and more popular and several international events schedule doubles races - here's Rambo's footage of the US Surfski Champs...
Two more races down - the Nelo Summer Challenge and the Maar'amu Surfski Race in Tahiti... Jasper Mocke beat his brother to take the Nelo race and to move into second position on the Oceanpaddler World Rankings.
The video feed was just clear enough that we could make out two white-clad figures paddling two white boats - the Mocke brothers, hammering it out in front of the 138-strong fleet of surfskis...
Despite the un-video-friendly conditions (low light/foggy), Rambo did a great job of this one. Look out for the flying ski in the surf at the start...!
Soon after landing in O'Hare the evening before the Chicago Shoreline Marathon, I heard the news: 35 knot NW winds + 8-to-12 foot seas + five fisherman swept off a pier = No race!
Two more races down - the Norweigen ASKR race and the US Surfski Champs... Jasper Mocke beat Sean Rice to take the ASKR event, while Dawid Mocke dominated in San Francisco.
As they raced under the Golden Gate Bridge, Dawid Mocke and Simon van Gysen were neck and neck, charging towards the Fenn Hotspot and its $1,000 reward. The last time they’d raced, in Spain, van Gysen had pulled away and won.
San Francisco: 96 athletes from 11 countries will line up later today to race the new US Surfski Championships course, among them a fair selection of the best surfski paddlers in the world today.
So, it must be spring again! Because the Swedish Surfski Spring camp is on this weekend! It’s still a bone shaking 10degrees outside and the water hasn’t become warmer than a cold beer should be.
