Maybe manufacture can incorporate something like this in the boat. It keeps the boat from going too fast down the wind.

This is such an important point.Others have said it before but it is worth repeating - when you go out surfskiing offshore, even with a bunch of people, when conditions are rough, it is very difficult for anyone to provide direct assistance (other than call for help). So it is always worth it to act as if your life depends on the gear (and its quality) that you have brought with you.
