I really think that over the years, surfskis have gotten heavier to make it easier to resale. The adjustable footwell is most likely a great contributor to weight gain. But hey, here's a good one for you:
I wouldn't dream of walking the length of my current 16kg surfski, whereas I walked the entire length of my deck on a 9kg surfski in the 90's.

24 years - and you call that advancement?
Next thing I know, you'll tell me cell phones are last for ever. LOL
