Yep, it’s official, the new Fenn single ski is named the Fenn Mako 6 (6 for 2006).
I was up in East London a week ago and called in at the Fenn factory to find out how production of the new skis is faring.
The factory is impressive. The photos show the production area that contains the moulds; the finishing area is almost as big. Keith says, though that he could use more room, especially as he gears up to produce the Mako 6.
Production Area
The first mould has been in full-time production for the last few weeks as he fulfilled an order of carbon skis for export. He’s just completed demo skis on a second mould for Durban and Cape Town – we’re expecting to see the Cape Town ski early next week…

Why aren’t there photos of the new skis? There were only a couple of them in the racks and they’d all been packed up ready for shipment.
But we’ll have plenty of photos in the next couple of weeks. We’ll be writing a full scale review of the ski once it’s here and we’ve had a chance to paddle it. We’ll be interviewing top paddlers who have tried it, but we’ll be talking to some intermediate paddlers as well. Stay tuned!
