Repairs To A Rudder Cable.

A Fairly newbie,
After snapping a rudder cable on an older model surf60, and losing the loose end, Stern side, into the boat, was wondering as to how to go about effecting a repair, if possible without compromising the hull? Is going into the hull they only way to sort out this problem>? Is there an outer casing in which the cable runs to make replacement easier? Resident in Port Alfred, so would the best option be to take the ski into the factory?
