Inland Lake conditions

So I got given the news that I am moving to Canberra for a few years for work.....

Do conditions ever get interesting on Lake Burleigh Griffon? Or will it always be flat as a tack?

Also, can you hope to get competitive by training mid week on lakes, and the odd training session in open water (Batemans Bay - 2 hours away) every odd weekend?
