Many of our users are also users of Yahoo newsgroups. There's a new "service" called grouply
www.grouply.com that has started up. The idea is that you sign up and it gives you a single place to view the messages from ALL your newsgroups.
Great idea, but...
You have to give them your Yahoo username and password. This has two implications:
1. You're trusting them with access to all kinds of Yahoo services like Yahoo! Finance.
2. They cull your newsgroup member lists and spam them, inviting them to join Grouply.

And here's the really alarming bit:
"Consider for a moment what information is controlled by your Yahoo! credentials ? like all your Flickr photos; your Yahoo!Finance account information; your Yahoo! Security Key; all your Yahoo! profiles and identities; your OpenID key; your home address and telephone number; your Yahoo!Wallet information, even your Yahoo!Auctions account.
Yep. Once you've given out your password, they have access to all of that, regardless if they have NO INTENTIONS WHATSOEVER of using it.
Grouply tries to allay fears about potential misuse of your credentials in this part of their FAQ but to anyone with a modicum of concern about their data privacy, this is a HUGE red flag. Doesn't matter what they say. (Can you say `rouge employee?') Fact is, you've given out your password. What happens next?"
