Hi Guys,
In my quest for a new boat, I have access to a ~2010 Fenn Mako 6 with a Huki gullwing for a good price. I know the Mako will be far too tippy for me, but the gull wing makes me wonder, what’s the thinking about an overly tippy boat with a stability aid (gull wing)?
My ideal boat is a Fenn XT or possibly Nelo 550 (or some other 18-20” boats that surf well) but as I cannot find a used one in my area and new is unaffordable I am left wondering about the Mako/Gull wing combo.
Is a gull wing on an elite boat in the hands of an intermediate paddler a recipe for bad habits? Or would this possibly help develop stability?
Typical conditions for me are harbor flat water out to the pacific ocean (Los Angeles area) which sees 2-3' often, 3-5' on occasion, and up to 6-8'+ during winter storms.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Cheers
