Let's hope that this race doesn't suffer from the crap conditions we have had all over the country in summer 2011/12!

Looks like a interesting course, would be nice with more downwind though?

This course is great, paddle it. If its blowing from the North East, it will be a cracker.

Yes, a cracker if its a North Easterly...

but..

Will race direction be reversed if its a South Easterly or (worse) a South Westerly?

Hi all,

we will consider to run the course in reverse if conditions require it however it is an entirely different proposition for Logistics and paddlers alike. Keep your fingers crossed and we get the winds we are hoping for! It is a sensational course and could be an amazing paddle with the right conditions.

Hi all,

despite having lodged the aquatic licence application before Christmas I have just been advised today that despite doing this I have not been granted an aquatic licence. Despite the best attempts by our team and making a personal approach to Waterways Sutherland office the licence has not been granted.

We are instead going to run the alternate course which will start from Bass & Flinders Point and follow the Cronulla beaches and then from Wanda take a right hand turn out to sea for approx 3km from Merries reef and then another right hand turn back into Port Hacking. We will adjust this turn on the day to give us the best possible run with the wind and swell. The forecast is for 15knots North East at the time of the race so we will have a good down wind section on the last leg.

The decision by waterways is out of our hands as we completed the forms supplied by them over 2 months ago and they only yesterday raised questions on our application despite follow up calls on the licence process. At no time where there any concerns raised.

We will have lots of safety craft on hand and there will still be a bbq in the park at the end.

I hope we will see you there.

Been there with the local waterways, not easy to deal with. The course is still great, should be a good test. Keep up the work with the new club. Hope to see you on the weekend.

The race has a new name - Bay Runner 2012!

As mentioned we will set the best possible course for the paddlers on the day. We will ensure that you get the longest surfing runs we can find. The course will start at Bass & Flinders Pt. Rego and briefing will be in Gunnamatta Bay on the southern side of the baths. We will then paddle out to the start line at Bass and Flinders and then finish on the beach back in Gunnamatta Bay.

The wind and swell are looking fantastic on Saturday. It has been a long time since we have conditions like this for a race! Remember there is a great bbq and presentation afterwards. See you there.

Steve

Replied by SDOP on topic Re: Bay Runner 2012
We have been asked to have a SUP course for the day. We will lay a special SUP course of approx 9km on the day. It will have the same start line as the main group and will go up to the turn off North Wanda with a right hand turn and then back to Gunnamatta Bay, finishing on the beach.
