Hmm, I wonder how this will synchronise with the Cape Point, which is now being raced annually in December?

Apparently the idea is that on PE2EL years, the Cape Point Challenge will move two weeks earlier and the PE2EL guys will use it as part of the build up to the race.

Part of the decision came from the conditions that will prevail in March 2008; the only suitable date coincides with Easter weekend which will cause problems with accommodation. Worse that that was it also coincided with full moon and spring tides that would cause Woody Cape to roar like a wounded buffalo (and be just about as dangerous).

Do you know why the Cape Point has been moved so close to Christmas - the Durban contingent reckon its a bad move as most of the guys who came down last year have family committments over this period and will not be coming down to CT - surely the weekend closest to the 16th of December would make more sense !

Have the organisers considered this ?

According to Pete Cole, they had a lot of requests to move the date from 16th to the 22nd to accommodate people who work in businesses that close down over Christmas.

The issue was that the businesses close down after 16th so those guys couldn't come down for the race!

Perhaps they should have had a poll to find out which date was better for more people!

what ever you do dont ask the paddlers what date they will want on.you will get 30 different dates.stick to the 22/12.dont start fiddling now.i have booked tickets to paddle on the 22/12.

Update: The dates for next year's PE2EL have not been confirmed by the National Surf Ski Committee.

When they are confirmed, there will be an official announcement.
