Footplate Rails not aligned

Hello fellow paddlers,

I have been dogged by a feeling that I feel uneven pressure on my heels when using leg drive. I have tried several workarounds including adding rubber to one side of the footplate and even using different settings on both sides. I assumed incorrect posture or a leg length issue was the cause until I measured the distance between the front of the bucket to the start of the rails that support the footplate. I found that one is further forward than the other by a few mm's. This makes a huge difference. I had noticed this on another ski some years ago.
Has anyone had this issue and if so, what was the fix?

I've had this on skis from 2 different manufacturers.
I called them and they confirmed there is a block of wood behind the screws.
Big enough that you can take out the screws, remove the rails, fill the old holes with epoxy and re-drill in the correct place. Make sure of the drill bit size needed.
Put new silicone in all the screw holes before you tighten them.
Check with you ski factory first though.

Best beware!

Not all skis are alike in this area.

Most of all you cannot measure from the bulkhead back to the footplate. You have to measure from the back centre of the seat forward. Some skis have bulkheads that are way off.

Thank you David and Ranga.
Great tips, I would not dare drilling any new holes however.
I have started to make a small device that fits onto the rail and allows for some adjustment.

I have an older ski that was very difficult to slide the foot plate. I finally measured and found that one rail was 1cm higher (towards the sky) than the other. I drilled new holes in the footplate to rectify it.

In a similar manner, maybe you could add a few mm thickness to one side of the footplate where the mounting hardware attaches?
