Spec ski rudder

Hi All, looking for rudder suggestions to improve the steering on my Gibbons GRX spec ski.

Currently have rudder similar to the one in the attachment.

Also wondering why all spec skis seem to have the rudder so close to the tail, wouldn't steering be better if it was further forward?

My guess is a higher aspect ratio surf rudder would improve the performance of any ski in open water. That being said, I believe your rudder is much less likely to be damaged messing about in the surf and/or running up on the beach.
I have a ten inch elliptical rudder and have to be very careful about going into shallow water. I ride waves in the surf zone all the time, but, I don't compete in spec ski races.
