I have had used only the Dansprint kayak erg (when I was in Sweden) and the KayakPro Speedstroke. Both are very good, but I purchased the Speedstroke.

I've had my Speedstroke for five years and still consider it one of the best purchases I have made. It is extremely well-built and has quite an authentic "feel". I'd buy another if something happened to mine.

The Speedstroke has some clever software that allows you to race against computer generated "rabbits" and view several courses. While fun, I usually don't bother hooking up my laptop and just put on some good music and crank. Display provides cadence, power, speed and more, enough to work on technique.

Thanks for that.

I see Kayakpro also makes a "Kayakpro CP compact” folding model. Any experience with that model?.... The size is appealing.

Bill,

I haven't tried that model. Assuming that the catch has the same realistic feel, folding for storage/transport would be a nice feature. I give local stroke clinics from time to time and have wanted to take my erg (as it is a fantastic coaching tool), but not having a truck or van, it always stays at home.

If you don't need to travel, then I keep mine on carpet pads behind a coach against a wall and just slide it (over hardwood floors) to the center of the room when needed.

There's a few good threads about ergs on this forum. Here's an image that I posted previously:

Best,
Greg
