Makai Cup 2015.
The Makai cup has been run and won in what were, again, classic downwind conditions. In its brief four year history this race has delivered on every occasion.
103 competitors greeted the starter at Bendalong beach for the 20km paddle back to Ulladulla harbour. The wind freshened as the morning wore on and by the 2pm start time we had 10 to 15 knots of North East breeze to help us on our way.
The first three kilometers is virtually straight into the slop out to an off shore turning buoy then it's pure downwind from there. The runs were plentiful and easily linkable and really great fun.
The winner on the day was a young up and comer by the name of Makenzie Hynard. He has just been signed up to the Think team and I'm sure we will be hearing a lot more of his name in the future. Mark "Ando" Anderson was second with Cade Barnes and Dean Gardiner rounding out the top four.
Big thanks to the Makai club for what is a really well put together event. It's a race that keeps getting rave reviews and for good reason.
Here are the full results. Happy paddling
