My third Garmin has just died - won't charge & is just outside 18month warranty!

Any recommendations on any GPS training devices that may be more robust / reliable??

Frustrating morning sorting out all the 'broken' electrical devices around the home :-(

Is 18months all one can expect out of this sort of device?

Tony H,

I pressume you're in Australia from your previous posts...

Australian Consumer Law says the product should be fit for purpose and last a reasonable period of time. There is no such thing as a specific warranty period. I've had my Garmin 910xt replaced 4 times over a period of three years.

Know your rights and go into bat - You need to get passed the call centre monkeys.

Also the charging clip on the 910 gets a 'dry joint' where it goes into the alligator fitting - you'll probably find by moving it around you'll get it to charge.

Previous craft: Affinity, Endorfinn, Multisport, Epic V8, V10sport, V10, V12, Fenn Swordfish, Spirit PRS Elite; Stellar S18S, SR, SE, SEL, S2E, S2EL

Stellar SR - Ultra

thanks Simon - australian call centre said issue is outside of 18month warranty period, so did feel 'fobbed' off there.
who did you pursue your replacements thro' - place of purchase or garmin australia.
frustrating experience, hence interest to look out for any other options.
another option for me is garmin 310xt which I preferred to 910xt - my 310 still works after 5yrs.
dropped my 910 off with a watch repairer today, so will see if he has some success - will give the dry joint a wiggle when i get it back.
thanks again

Tony H,

I think you'll find that call centre is offshore!
I got through to a supervisor who gave me the 'guy' in Australia to talk to - It was April 2013 the last time I had to read them Australian Consumer Law - it's worth a read...The next time a retailer tries to give you the run around.
I've been involved retail/wholesale/importing for 35 years - what i've learnt is the first loss is the cheapest!

The 'Guy': Longo Fidow (Product Support Specialist) t 1800 235 822 |f +61 2 8882 6150| w www.garmin.com.au
What you need to get is a RMA#

Garmin Returns Australasia

PO Box 684

Be sure to post how you get on...

On another forum, (SUP), they're talking about a GPS device that is more accurate than the Garmins and less expensive, the Canmore GT-102. I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to.

I'd rather be paddling....

Think EVO II
Epic V10S
Nelo 520
Epic V8
