The paddlers awoke to perfect downwind conditions this morning... 20-25kt ESE wind, combined with a 3m, 10sec swell from the east.

This week has seen by far the best conditions ever (for paddlers at any rate) at the event, and this week has seen non-stop downwind action as the visitors made the most of it.

Due to the conditions, the race organisers split the event, keeping the less experienced paddlers inside the reef, leaving about 90 skis to tackle the longer open ocean route.

But it all came down to a sprint finish on the last 1.5km stretch on the shallow flat water inside the reef... Dawid Mocke had lead the race from the beginning, and was chased through the infamous Le Morne reef pass by his younger brother Jasper.

And in the end, it was Jasper who prevailed, crossing the line with the nose of his ski just about a metre in front of the defending champion's...

Matt Bouman came in third, with Barry Lewin making it an impressive fourth.

Unofficial results continue:

5/6 very close finish between Tom Schilperoort and Jean Luc Mauvis

7. Sean Rice
8. Steve Woods
9. Reece Baker
10. Oscar chalupsky
11. Herman Chalupsky
12. Grant vd Walt.

And Nikki Mocke revelled in the conditions to win the women's race convincingly.
2. Nikki Russell
3. Angie Mouden
