Help bring live video streaming to Surfski

White Hot Media TV (Greg Kitto) is going to be filming the ICF Ocean Racing (Surfski) World Championships in Portugal on 12-14 July.

He wants to provide live streaming in hi-def so that we can all watch the event, wherever we are in the world.

But in order to do that, Youtube requires a minimum of 1,000 subscribers to Greg's channel.

Please, please consider subscribing to the channel. All it means is that you'll be alerted whenever Greg posts a surfski video - which is what we all want, right? AND it will enable us to watch the ICF event live.

Oh sure, there's a whole host of other providers - but Youtube is the cream of the crop. Video has been tried at a number of events (like Molokai and the previous couple of years of the Nelo Summer Challenge) but it's always been really poor quality - such low resolution that you can't figure out who's on the skis.

It's time for professional grade coverage!

Justin tv provides full hd, so resolution is not a problem. In esport twitch.tv is used which is owned by justin tv just specialized towards esport. Everyone from private persons streaming to friends to big companies with 100-200 thousands viewers use it. I think theres a reason why they chose it and before you judge it its worth to check out.

Fair enough. I've asked White Hot Media why they particularly wanted to go with Youtube! I hope there's a good reason, I've put quite a bit of effort into getting people to subscribe!!!

Hey Cell, it seems there are good reasons for going with Youtube, among them considerations of search (my own videos tend to be more found and watched on youtube than on vimeo, although I (used to) prefer vimeo as a service).

Also apparently there are technical reasons to do with "automatic multi-cast in HD, SD and mobile", etc.

I'm not an expert in this stuff, but the guys who are doing the streaming want to go with Youtube as a first prize, but will use one of the other service providers if they have to.

So... onwards and upwards! 429 subscribers to go!

Ok, lets hope they can get all subscribers and provide a nice stream for us

For anyone who's not seen this before - we're supporting Greg Kitto at White Hot Media TV, who's made a gazillion surfski TV shows and who is covering the ICF Ocean Racing surfski World Championships in Portugal on 12-14 July.

The aim is to get live streaming video of the event via Youtube. The catch is that for Youtube to open the channel, they require a minimum of 1,000 subscribers.

We started the appeal last week and have already got over 700 subscribers - so if you haven't subscribed yet, please go to the channel page, there are a couple of cool surfski videos there already, and click on the SUBSCRIBE button.

Please do it! I'm gagging to see Dawid, TJ, Hank, Sean, etc, etc, battle it out!

Might pay to go to some regular kayak paddling sites such as paddling.net to try to bring some more people on board. MAybe even a few Yahoo paddling groups such as neoceankayakracing (NE Ocean Kayak/Surfski Racing,) rivercitypaddlers (River City Paddlers),SURFSKI HONG KONG etc.

Good point... will do. Even the outrigger guys might help us out with this one.
