V14 vs V12 was created by 1xsculler
Please forgive me if this subject has been discussed. I've been away with a shoulder issue.
V14 vs V12? Cockpit size, paddler body position, etc.? Basically I want the fastest, most challenging flat water ski. No, I don't want a K1 because I don't want to have to swim it back to shore.
I have a V12 now and I like it but I'm always looking at the new stuff.
Any suggestions?

I'm 69 years old, 6' 2" tall, 155 pounds, 34" inseam and will paddle and row mostly on flat water unless I'm on Maui, as my wife and I are very frequently, and then I'll rent a ski and learn by the school of hard knocks about waves, etc.
One of the reasons I want the most challenging ski on my flat water at home is I feel it will better prepare me for Maui.
Your thoughts.

current skis: SES Ultra. sculling boats: Fluidesign Lwt, Wintech, Empacher.

Haha you shoulda bought my Red7 when you had the chance! :)
Seriously though, you could just pad up your v12 seat and paddle in open water in appropriately challenging conditions.
In my experience, learning to paddle **correctly** in a stable ski in open water helps me more than paddling a K1 incorrectly in flat water. But that probably depends on how much (and what) is wrong with your stroke. For me, most of my instability is caused not by the water but by bad stroke mechanics, especially leg pressure/timing.
