I'm a beginner and looking to buy a surf ski; I have done some K1 paddling, but most of my paddling has been white-water in a tupperware. I'm also big and tall: around 100kg and 1.95m.

Ive seen lots of different skis advertised and see that height seems to play a role.

any suggestions, please

Have a look at them all and give them a test paddle. I reckon you'll be mighty impressed with the Stellar SR; this is my pick as the best performed, finished and priced "Intermediate" on the market and will definitely fit a big bloke like you.

Hi Garth.

Depending on your location, you may find that a cheap spec ski gets you started. If you can paddle a K1 and have the white water experience, then balance shouldn't be an issue.

Down wind paddling can take some time (for some us a lifetime) to master and using a robust ski for a while time will provide a benchmark when looking at the ocean skis.

A few years ago it was relatively easy to answer this question, but now there are so many ski's out there it's a case of identifying what ski's are available on the 2nd hand market in your area, what dealers you have in your area, what they are selling and then perhaps asking the forum to help you choose from that list!

There may be something useful in these past threads.

I am the agent for this brand - so full disclosure I am bias.

I think it is worth mentioning though as it is well priced and designed for Beginners to Intermediates.

Anyway good Luck with whatever you choose. :)
