Mine also did that.
I did the reset hold down the lap button for 3 seconds and turned it off and then on again.

Then it come up with some weird screen I had never seen before and then turned on an found the satellites.

I was doing this whilst trying to paddle, it was a bit off a laugh.

Does anyone know if you can put in a route. The model prior could do this. It iwas handy when doing a race where you have to go around a buoy. eg the Doctor. As far as I know on my unit you can't do this.

Martin, there are several ways of doing it. I sometimes put in way points and navigate to that way point or you can also put in a course and follow it.

or

There are plenty fo others on YT to look at as well.

Hey Martin,

I used www.gpsies.com to create a route, saved it as a garmin file and then used the garmin training center to uplad it to the 310xt. Its all quite straght forward and didnt give me any problems.

Perhaps you GPS savvy people can save me some internet research. I currently have a forerunner 305 which is starting to take water (condensation showing under display after long paddles). I have about 2-3 years out of it and it takes a hammering with running, cycling and paddling use.

I am about to buy a new road bike that has an integrated ANT+ wireless cadence & speed sensor (TREK Madone 5.5) and thought I might kill two birds with one stone and get a new GPS for the bike and paddling. Any thoughts on best options.

EDIT, I have since done a bit more reading on my 305 and found that it is up to the task, but would still like to hear others thoughts. Here is a link to a blog that gives some great info on using the 305 for all sorts of things including swimming which I hadnt considered (yes it's not meant to be used for swimming)

Always looking for the next boat :)

I've had the same problem (condensation) I opened the shell of my 305, let it dry, and reassembled the two halves with silicon (bathroom type): assembly is ugly but unit is not taking water anymore.

AR I was going to direct you to DCRainmaker as he is prety knowledgable on garmins but I see you have already been there. Read his review of the 310xt which is pretty extensive.

There are rumours of a replacement for the 310 in the next few months so if you can put up with the 305 in the interim maybe wait and see what the new version is like.

Cheers, may do that, just thought it would be nice to have a nice new toy to go with the nice new bike.

And a smart company plays the game right and keeps it's loyalty base.

Imagine if they just told you go away as it is out of warranty?
I've heard many stories of this company doing the right thing.

I'm sure that is the reason that it commands so much of the market.

Interested ..Yes :woohoo:

Can afford...Not really! :(

Maybe in a few years they'll come down in price, I would rather spend the money getting some disc race wheels.

Also just heard from the Saffa company Mobii on the gps alternatives thread, seems we wont be waiting long to see thus exciting new gadget in Australia. In my opinion it will be a game changer, wouldn't surprise me if Garmin bought them!
One if my favorite features is the talking updates while you are swimming!

Mailed my 310XT to Garmin due to issues related to the automatic download of my workouts on Friday and received a new unit with all extras on Wednesday (four days turnaround time).

The replaced unit was 18 months old - and looked nothing less.

No question I will stay with Garmin with support like that

Garmin has a new device on its way!

Looks like it may be good for paddle sports as it even measures swim stroke rate!
