Boat for rank novice?

I have only paddled the epic v10 and enjoyed it enormously and now want to buy a boat and paddle more...I am a cheap mf, and found a very reasonable burton locally. Is this remotely contemporary or just old junk? I have delusions of entering races (not expecting to be competetive). I live on Hawaii and would love to get out on bigger waves, without getting totally worked. Any input would be welcome.
Thanks
Steve

You are more than welcome to use the Mark 1 that was stolen from me on Oahu about 4 yrs ago - if you see it, that is. Size 5 (fits 5"10 to 6' or so), light grey deck, white hull, deep seat.

As for your spec ski, they're still great skis and will go well in the bumps. The seat height will determine its stability, some are low, others high. Better to have a spec ski than nothing at all.
