Helmet for GoPro/Garmin VIRB?

Hi all
Just wondering if anyone has advice on the best type of helmet to mount a GoPro/VIRB to for downwind ocean paddling?  Is it as simple as just getting a vented bicycle helmet and a helmet mount for the camera?
The head strap that I've been using gets knocked off paddling out through the impact zone and I thought a helmet would have a better chance of staying on my head when hit by a foamy!
Cheers and thanks.

Yep, just as simple as that I think.

Be sure though to get a helmet that fits properly.  I used an old helmet that didn't and my early videos all had a horizon tilted at 10degrees off horizontal...  aaaaargh!

Hahaha!  Thanks Rob.  I've seen a few of your videos where you're wearing the helmet and I'd imagine you'd forget it was on after a while.  Thanks for the advice.  I'll start having a look around for a light helmet in high vis colours hopefully.
Cheers

Or of course, you could use a mast...  I like the mast PoV!  Or, even better, both!!!!

Awesome video Rob!  The mast certainly provides a great perspective.  Noticed it was really good for showing how you were selecting the runs to link them as well as when you were and weren't paddling.

How does the mast fare if you capsize?

The mast is a great concept, how does it cope if you go for a swim?

The mast is a great concept, how does it cope if you go for a swim?

I have come off once or twice with the mast on and it hasn't dislodged.  I do have a safety line on it and "Plan B" would be to pull it in and put it on my lap if necessary.

It's attached with velcro tape on the underneath of the base (partly to cushion it and partly to stop it sliding on the deck) and duct tape on top.  My thinking was not to have it too well attached for fear of damaging the deck if I came off at speed.

I would hesitate to use it in proper Durban-type surf!
