Sanding / cutting the battered edges of a carbon paddle

Hi

As most of us have experienced this problem I wanted to find out the best way to tidy up the chipped and damaged frayed edges of a carbon paddle. I'm sure having tatty edges doesn't help when paddling either. This comes from years of use and I believe I have two options. I want to avoid fraying the edges further so do I :-
a) Use an orbital sander ( will this fray the edge even more? ) what grain of sandpaper should I use?
b) Use a high speed cutting disc and cut back the paddle blade edge. What equipment would you use and what type of cutting disc.

Of course there may be other solutions ( buy new one).

Cheers

Martin
