Does anyone have any information regarding the optimal leg bend for a ski?

I am aware of the various rules of thumb (enough room for a fist under the knee) and (knee at navel height) but they both seem like there is a lot of room for variation.

When ordering a fixed leg length ski manufacturers must have a guide to determine what the optimum length must be. Is there some equation that they utilise using a known angle to a specific leg length. If so what is the angle?

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

The fist under the leg is pretty much it. However, it is just a basic guide. Its important that you're able to push with your heel without locking it. Over extending just to push can be strenuous so the fist under the knee rule covers that.

However, its best to get adjustable pedals to accommodate various paddlers. There is no advantage is getting a ski with fixed leg length. In the event of you want to sell it in the future, it will be a challenge to get a buyer.

Iv been paddling SLSA spec skis for about 10years now, however in the last 2 years have ventured into ocean racing and am now on a fenn mako 6. Whilst paddling on a spec ski i seemed to have no problems with leg length at all, however paddling my mako 6, i seem to be constantly changing the leg length from one hole (length setting) to the other-back and forth-back and forth and cannot seem to find what is comfortable or feels right. One setting feels long, the other setting feels short. I also feel as though one leg is longer than the other, and feel as though I am paddling with my hips twisted. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can become more comfortable in my ski, or should I just continue to put up with one leg length and get used to it! I feel as though I am being extremely fussy, however its annoying me!!! :-\
