Coolangatta Gold

Hi all
Does anyone know if it is possible to hire surf skis on the Gold Coast/ Brisbane?
I'm from Perth and I really want to do the Coolangatta Gold one day - it is a logistical nightmare and really expensive getting the craft across though! Not to mention the risk of damage in transit. If anyone has any bright ideas I'd love to hear them
