Project 720 Project 720

Nine paddlers; 72 hours; average speed 10kph.  That’s 720km.  Welcome to Project 720.

Cool Challenge, but why?

This is a charity gig – the paddlers are raising money for KICK, an organisation that funds various projects that benefit children in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  Included in Project 720 are:

  • A school being built for children younger than 5 years old in the impoverished township of Walmer.
  • Tayden Hershensohnn, 19 month old baby suffering from feeding tube syndrome.  He needs a special operation in Graz, Austria.

The details on Project 720 may be found here:

Project 720 Paddlers

Lead by the frenetic big wave chaser Richard “Wildman” von Wildemann, the team includes

  • Hadyn Skinner
  • Andrew Skowno
  • Stuart Laing
  • Calvin Zeelie
  • Jordan Zeelie
  • Hein van Rooyen
  • Jason Goedhals
  • Luvuyo Zonzinyama
  • And a bunch of celebrities and other members of the public who will paddle at least a lap each.  (Could be some time to make up for the “pro” paddlers!)

Times

The event begins at 6pm on Friday, 6 August and ends at 6pm on Monday, 9 August.

The Course

There are two alternates – the 2.5km lap and a shorter, 1km lap that will be used if safety considerations require it...  And they may well do... look at the weather forecast (below) for the weekend in PE!
