Pete Marlin 2011 Pete Marlin 2011

The 2010 Pete Marlin event saw the cream of South African Surfski paddling converge on East London where Dawid Mocke took the SA singles title and (with brother Jasper) the doubles title too.

Back in November 2011, the two-day event is designed to showcase South African downwind paddling, with a singles race on Saturday 12 November, and a doubles race on Sunday 13th.

Mocke Brothers

The Mocke brothers took out the doubles event leaving Dawid Mocke with both the SA singles and doubles titles for 2010.

24km Downwind

Assuming the weather plays ball, the races will take place on the same 24km course, finishing at Nahoon Beach.

The coastline off East London lends itself to tactical racing - numerous reefs, headlands and currents present opportunities to gamble on inshore/offshore lines...

Women's champions

Michele Eray and Nikki Mocke won the women's doubles title (making Eray the singles and doubles title holder for 2010)...  Mocke won't be back - she's busy growing the second of the next generation Mocke paddling championsI

Prize Money

The sponsors have laid on a R35,000 prize purse with R7,000 for the singles winner...

Entry fees: R170 for one race; R250 for both, including a goodie bag containing a WET barrel bag.  There will be plenty of lucky draws too...
